DIMF 2007 Opens in Korea
The Machine Tools Business Group has opened an in-house trade show every other year since 1997 to expand into new overseas markets, enlarge the base for new orders, and boost dealers marketing capabilities. The sixth Doosan International Machine Tools Fair (DIMF) was held at Changwon Plant 1 between May 16th and 19th, and participants got a look at fifty-eight new models, sporting new colors and designs.
This year¡¯s event was the biggest ever, attended by some 2,800 people, including more than 800 dealer representatives from forty-six countries. Importantly, around 400 dealer reps and customers came from China, Southeast Asia and India. This means that Doosan Infracore is making inroads into emerging markets and diversifying its customer base, which is already strong in the US and Europe.
58 New Models in New Colors and Designs
DIMF was an opportunity for the company to elevate its stature as a technology leader in the machine tool industry. Newly applied technologies were introduced such as ultra-high-speed machining centers with thermal displacement compensation capabilities, nano-precision cutters, and multifunction turning centers with built-in 3D collision control. The die and mold machining center line was also bolstered with eleven new models.
The Machine Tools BG also applied design innovations to make over its products at this year¡¯s DIMF. Highly qualified coating job, simplified exteriors with fresh colors as well as ergonomically designed peripheral equipment layouts helped to project an uncomplicated and powerful yet trustworthy image.
The BG showroom included a new Virtual Reality Room that allows viewers to confirm Doosan Infracore¡¯s technological prowess visually. The internal structure of the products and previews of their operation were shown in 3D simulations.
At the opening ceremony, The Executive Vice-president & COO, Kim Woong Bum said, ¡°We plan to sell more than ten thousands machine tools this year to break W1 trillion in revenue. By 2010, Doosan Infracore machine tools sales will be ranked second in the world and by 2015, we aim to have reached the top spot with annual output of 20,000 units.¡±
A Pledge to Supply Optimal Systems
The Machine Tools BG has set its sales target at 10,000 units in 2007, a thirty percent increase over the 2006¡¯s figure. The BG will continue expanding product functions in order to be the ¡°optimal system provider.¡± This does not mean simply relying on the latest technologies governing machine tool performance. Doosan Infracore is also looking to provide optimized solutions and production systems that take advantage of the company¡¯s unique quality assurance know-how and unique applied technologies. This is the way for Doosan to lead the market for value-added products.
The Doosan Infracore Machine Tools BG sold 6,700 units in 2005 and 7,700 units last year. This year, the Machine Tools Division in Doosan Mecatec was merged with the operation at Doosan Infracore. The resulting synergy effect and expanded product lines should enable the BG to reach its 2007 sales target of 10,000 units easily.
